Therapy

My approach

Our stories are formed within relationships. With this in mind, I pay particular attention to your relationships (past and present), and the ways that these relationships have shaped how you view yourself, others and the world. Often times, our pain happens within relationships, and it takes a relational space to also experience healing. My therapeutic approach is grounded in psychoanalytic theories with an attunement to relational and cultural dynamics. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I am committed to providing a collaborative, safe and respectful space where you can express your thoughts and feelings, no matter how difficult.

My areas of specialty include depression, anxiety, trauma, relational stress, racial & cultural identity, and the intersection of faith, spirituality and psychological well-being.

Privacy & Security

Protecting your privacy is of utmost importance to me. As such, I have set up secure and HIPAA-compliant platforms to communicate with clients and transmit paperwork:

I receive all phone, email and text communications through my secure phone number and email address. All intake, consent forms, paperwork, video calls and payment are processed through user-friendly platforms built with optimized encryption for healthcare providers.

A Few Thoughts about Therapy

Let's be honest. Therapy can feel like such a strange process. You meet with a stranger, share your thoughts, feelings and experiences, and hope that it provides relief from your distress. For many people, this process runs counter to their cultural values (e.g. many believe that problems should be kept within the family). Given my training background, I have an appreciation for how strange therapy can feel and the skill to help you navigate it.

So on one hand, therapy feels strange; on the other, I believe that it can be tremendously helpful (precisely because it is unlike any other relationships we typically have in life), and I'd like to share how this is so.

In therapy, you have the confidential space to explore your deepest thoughts and feelings, even those that you have never said to yourself or other people. You explore these deeper layers of yourself within a collaborative relationship with someone who is trained in helping you become more aware of who you are. Out of this place of deeper and more grounded self-awareness, you are equipped to make decisions in your life that are true to who you are.

It is so important to find a therapist who is a good fit for you, and I encourage you to contact at least a few therapists to have a sense of how each works before beginning treatment. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so we can discuss your goals for therapy. You are welcome to contact me to see if I would be a good fit for what you are looking for, and if I am not, I am happy to provide you with referrals.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your health care will cost.

Under the law, health care organizations need to give patients who don't have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your health care organization gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care organization, and any other organization you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
